Hello! If you haven’t heard, Taylor Swift came out with a new album called Evermore recently and it is amazing! (Dare I say better than Folklore?) So, when I saw Star is All Booked create an Evermore Book Tag, I knew I had to do it. Make sure you check out the original here!
Willow: A character you would follow anywhere
Holden Caufield from The Catcher in the Rye. I absolutely loved his character and the journey he takes in the novel, and honestly, I’d just want to protect him, he deserves to have a good friendship with someone he can trust.
Champagne Problems: Dual POV
Since this song is about people on different pages, I figured I’d pick a book with two perspectives where I only liked one, so I chose Release by Patrick Ness. I enjoyed Adam’s perspectives and luckily his is the majority of the novel, but there was another character interspliced every few chapters to add a magical element to the story, which I felt was unnecessary.
Gold Rush: Anticipated release
I don’t generally keep up with new releases, so I chose Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas, which came out last month. This book takes place seventeen years before The Hate You Give. I loved both of Angie Thomas’ other books, so I’m very excited to read and hopefully love this one too.
‘Tis the Damn Season: Small town romance
You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson has the cutest romance set in a small Indiana town. I have a full review for this book here if you’d like to check it out.
Tolerate It: Lost love, failed relationship
The relationship in Deposing Nathen. I had no idea what to expect going into this book, but it was much heavier than I anticipated, though I loved it. I don’t want to say much more about this as this is a book you should go into knowing very little, but it’s very underhyped and deserves more love.
No Body, No Crime: Character who would get away with murder
“I could set the world on fire and call it rain.” Maven from the Red Queen series. He said it himself, he could do anything and get away with it. I just love his character, he’s one of my favorite parts of the series.
Happiness: A book that makes you suffer but you find comforting
This is possibly the best song on this album, I just find the vocals angelic and the message is gorgeous. Anyway, I chose We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson and The Wicker King by K. Ancrum. Both of these novels deal with complex relationships and mental illness, but they both manage to convey a theme of hope and I love them.
Dorothea: Nostalgic read
Percy Jackson! I’m planning to reread the whole series this year, and hopefully catch up on Rick Riordan’s other works, as they are all so well written and such fun reads. They were the best growing up and I’m excited to dive back into them!
Coney Island: Star crossed lovers
This was honestly the hardest question as I spent a *very* long time going through my bookshelves IRL and Goodreads to find something other than Romeo and Juliet that counted, so here are a few that might? I’m still not sure, but I have Dorian Gray and Basil Hallward, Rodya and Sonya from Crime and Punishment, and Cathrine and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights.
Ivy: Crept up upon you (A story you didn’t expect to like as much as you do)
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. I’ve read this play twice and the first time it was alright, but the second time I was studying it so I took my time and was better able to appreciate the writing and minute details that I missed the first time.
Cowboy Like Me: Cat and mouse games
The Wolf Road by Beth Lewis. This is a post-apocalyptic novel about a young girl on the run from the man who raised her after learning that he is a murderer. It was very strange and quite slow-paced, but I remember liking it. (I read it a few years ago)
Long Story Short: A book you would never read again
There are a few I could name for this, mostly ones I didn’t like when I read it, or ones from genres I don’t read much anymore. So to pick just one, I would say Tin Man by Sarah Winman. This was a very disappointing read. Very little occurred and the writing was all over the place, so I don’t have much interest in reading this again.
Marjorie: A book with a beautiful message
Challenger Deep by Neil Shusterman! I’m quite surprised by how little this book is talked about, considering how incredible it is. It was probably the weirdest books I’ve ever read, but I mean this in the best way. The overall story focuses on hope and family and it was a very powerful and emotional journey to read.
Closure: Book with bad rep (a betrayal)
The Secret History by Donna Tart. I’ve actually written a whole post on my issues with the novel and am planning to post it in a few days, but overall I thought all the terrible things that occurred were never addressed properly.
Evermore: Journey of self discovery
King and the Dragonflies by Kacen Callender features a really sweet adventure filled with learning and understanding who you are. The book had such mystical writing which created a beautiful and hopeful atmosphere.
