The Testing By Joelle Charbonneau

This is a spoiler free review. I gave this book a 5/5 stars.

This book takes place in the United Commonwealth, which is America after a deadly war called The Seven Stages War. The war destroyed most of the world and those who survived were left to rebuild it.

Cia Vale, from the Five Lakes Colony (I’m assuming that this is Michigan), dreams of being chosen for The Testing. The Testing a a series of tests and if passed that person can continue their studies by going to University. Cia’s father was chosen for the Testing and made it through University. After her graduation from high school, she and four of her classmates were chosen for the Testing.

It is exactly what Cia wants, but the Testing may be darker than she could have ever imagined. Before she leaves her father advises her to “trust no one”.  Now Cia must face The Testing and the secrets that lie within.

I found the book really fast paced and easy to read. Charbonneau’s writing is very gripping and makes you not want to put the book down. I thought the book was written well and easy to understand what was happening throughout the novel.

I very much liked Cia’s character and thought she was a hard worker. I did not really like Zandri’s character because I thought she was a bit selfish when making decisions. I was not sure who I should trust because of Cia’s father. I thought is was a bit strange that no one knew what happened during the Testing, so I was on the lookout for anything suspicious.

Other than that, I completely enjoyed the book. I would recommend this book to people who like fast paced action, and lots of adventure.
